Detailed Course Notes

Children should be 8 years old or above to attend this course.

This two day action packed holiday is a chance for you and your family to try some of the most exciting outdoor activities, all in one go.   It’s good fun from start to finish.

Who is it for?
You don’t need any experience, as we will start with the basics and move at your own pace.  You don’t even need to be super fit, just be willing to have a go and have some fun.

Course Content
The two days are made up of several exciting activities, giving you a good experience of each one.  The weather will dictate which ones we do first, and which are most appropriate for the conditions, so our programme is flexible.  The main activities are:

  •  After practicing some basic skills, race to find points around the woods, using a map and compass.

Canoeing and Kayaking

  •  Learn to control and steer your craft, then head off on a journey on the lake or river, exploring as you go.

Rock Climbing

  • With a safety rope attached, challenge yourself to scale the rocks and reach the top.  Then if you like, abseil back down again.

  • Whether it's a way down from the top of a climb, or an exposed descent of our Abseil tower, this is a skill that is sure to excite!

With each session, we will explain the equipment and safety procedures involved, and let you do as much as possible yourselves.  In this way you will get a true picture of the activity, and will be able to decide if you would like to take it further and do some more.  Although the instructors will encourage you, it will always be your choice exactly what and how much you want to do.

Customer Reviews For This Course / Holiday

Roll on 2012

Tom Monday

Many times in life you are told things by friends and you assume they are exaggerating, well this year i found out that two things i had been told were completely true and accurate .

1 : the midges in skye are unbearable ,as i found out on a sea kayaking trip up the skye coast this is completely true we were only saved from going mad by the force 7 winds that blew them away.

2 :PYB is superb ,this is also true ,my son and I cannot fault it everything including the accomodation, food, facilities, equipment etc were excellent, but most of all the instructors made our holiday as they were superb ,they made us feel more as if we were friends than customers and thier enthusiasm for the activities was infectious, we can't wait for the 2012 course catalogue to come out so that we can book our next visit.

We would particularly like to thank Guy Steven our course director, who considering he had to deal with a group of families with a wide range of ages and abilities ran the course faultlessly.

Excellent weekend.

Magda Boucher

An excellent weekend. Good food, good accommodation. The weekend was well organised with excellent tutors. The activities were fun and challenging and a good mix. I would highly recommend this weekend for young people and adults, i enjoyed it enormously and would love to go again.

An excellent way to bring everyone together and have some outdoor fun

Hernan Morillo

I have attended several of PYB excellent courses in the past but this was a family first. Rosemary, Ann and Matthew (our instructors) worked hard to give us an action packed weekend that was fun, challeging and safe. The age range was 8 to 55+ years and I still wonder how Rosemary and her capable team managed to keep us all challenged and entretained at the same time despite our diverse expectations and previous experience levels. I would recommend this course several times over to any parent with at least one 8year old son/ daughter.
We'll definitely be back for more!.
