Detailed Course Notes

You should be 12-17 years old to attend this course.

Is it for me?

This is a five day holiday including some of the most fun and exciting activities you can do in Britain's mountains and coastline for young people aged 12 - 17 years old. Each day will be unique, challenging, and is sure to be memorable. You do not need any previous experience, just plenty of enthusiasm to have some fun in the mountains and to make new friends.

What we cover

The plan will be flexible during the week to allow us to make the most of the weather, and ensure that you have as much fun as possible. During your stay you may have the chance to have a go at some of these activities:

  • Rock climbing - Learn to control each others safety rope, as you take turns to climb the cracks and ledges of a rocky cliff. We also have an indoor wall for evenings or bad weather.

  • Bouldering - Shorter climbs on big boulders without ropes, where you are free to just do it.

  • Orienteering - Race to find points around the woods, using a map and compass.

  • Sea-level Traversing/Coasteering - Journey along the rocky coastline, just above the sea, or dangle over the waves as you cross by rope.

  • Canoeing and Kayaking - Try different types of paddling on the lakes carved out by the mountains.

  • Mountain Walk - Reach the summit of one of Snowdon's famous peaks.

  • Gorge Walk - Scramble up the rocky bed of a river, climbing, wading (and maybe swimming) your way between obstacles.

All our staff are qualified and experienced coaches with infectious enthusiasm for the activities. They are experienced in teaching at all levels and most importantly, they have lots of experience helping people choose the level of adventure right for them. Small groups allow us to give you individual attention.

Amazing

Joe

:)

Manon Rattle

At first, I wasn't sure about coming on this trip but I'm so glad that i did as it was the best fun i have ever had and most definitely the best holiday! I came with my cousin and we made so many more new friends on our course.
I never wanted it to end as we did so many different things each day and it was a wonderful experience. I cant wait to come again next year! :) You spend all your time with new people (unless you are asleep) and I made some really great friends and we are going to come back together next year! On this particular course, you do and learn something new everyday. For example, on the first day we went gorge walking which was so much fun even though we got absolutely soaked! The next day was kayaking and canoeing which was also great as we just mucked around in boats for the day :) This course has something for everyone and even if you dont particuarly enjoying doing something you still have a great time!
I can't thank plas y brenin enough! I had the best time ever and i would definitely recommend enrolling in a course.

Mountain Adventure for Young People

Tara Edwards-Jones

I found this course really exiting because you get to try loads of different activities, and can do so at your own level of confidence. if you are wondering which of these activities your most likely to do on this course then I would say gorge walking ,kayaking ,rock climbing ,mountain walking ,canoeing and on the last day your group gets to pick what they do . Also in the afternoon (what ever young peoples course you pick) you would still probably do orienteering, raft building, low ropes, and a bouldering competition.
This course is ideal for teaching you the start/basic level of these activities or even just a reminder while having a laugh and making new friends .I recommend this course if your looking for fun on a range of activities but as long as your taking a course at PYB your gonna have a good time!
Oh and you'll be busy all day long, just make sure you don't miss dinner.

O Duffey

Very good week. Perfect for people wanting to get outside and try different sports or just have some fun. Great facilities and really good instructors. Not really for those wanting to specialise in a particular sport though. A really enjoyable week.
