Pete Catterall (February)
I saw this frog spawn whilst out mountain biking on the south side of the Rhinogs at the weekend. Despite it being unusually early to find frog spawn this example is already quite well developed (around 3 weeks) as you can see from the large black dots which are the developing tadpoles. Unfortunately for these little guys there may still be some very cold weather to come, reducing their chance of survival.
frog spawn can survive surprisingly low temperatures though and It's 'so-far-so-good' for this lot as the spawn is still clear. If it is killed by cold weather frog spawn changes to a milky white colour
