It's not often you come across fossils in Snowdonia. When you do they are very special. Why are they special? Because they are so very old. I was green with envy when one of my students came across this excellent trilobite recently. It it a creature which lived amproximately 500 million years ago.
It's body was fossilised in mudstone which, after a long period of mountain building followed by an even longer period of erosion, had found it's way to the present day surface quite close to the summit of Pen Yr Ole Wen. So watch where you're walking, you never know what you might see!
