Dave Cheetham (May)
I saw these flowers alongside a woodland path near Abergwyngregin yesterday.
The Red campion has many alternatives names including 'Adders Flower' and my favorite 'Soldiers Buttons'.
Extremely popular with 'long-tongued bumble bees' (no it's not a joke there is such a thing), Red campions are amongst the wild flowers that are in decline - in turn causing the decline of the bees.
Long associated with snakes, devils, goblins and death, one of the more sinister stories attached to Red Campion is that - if you pick Red Campion your father will die.
My dad will be glad to know that I simply took a quick photo of these beauties and declined the urge to pick any flowers on this occasion.
