Stopping on our mountain bikes yesterday on a forest track at Newborough, Anglesey I saw this Herb Robert and took the chance to grab a quick photo.
Herb Robert gets its name from French saint Robert, Abbot of Molerne whose healing skills were legendary. Known in the states as 'Stinky Bob', Herb Robert is regarded by many as an invasive, noxious weed. However in traditional herbalism it is thought of as something of a wonderdrug. It is used as a remedy for toothache and nosebleeds, and as a cure for dysentery. It is even believed to be an effective herbal treatment in the fight against cancer.
What's more, if you find your self out in the woods without insect repellent, crushing some fresh Herb Robert leaves and rubbing them on your skin is believed to repel mosquitoes.
