John Cousins (June)
I spotted this Merganser and her chicks on Llyn Padarn yesterday. We were paddling through the lagoons and the minute she saw us her well trained chicks climbed on her back and they were off (I can definitely relate to a parent finding themselves being treated like a never ending taxi service!).
I have always liked mergansers because with my limited knowledge of waterfowl this one's so easy to spot. The tufted head and hooked beak are real giveaways next to the ducks, geese and swans of this lake.
