Fairy Ink Cap Mushrooms
Dave Cheetham (July)
We came across this cluster of tiny mushrooms whilst out mountain biking in the Gwydyr Forest. These can often be found in large numbers like this usually on dead tree stumps, decomposing and recycling the rotten wood.
It takes a keen eye to spot them though as they are very small. The caps of these ones were little bigger than a thimble.
When fairy cap mushrooms are young they are a beige color, but as they age this turns to grey, then eventually to black.
