John Cousins (March)
This is an indication that spring has finally arrived. Although not in bloom yet, these will soon be covered in beautiful four petalled golden flowers.
Growing to about 20cm tall Golden Saxifrage is one of the first flowers of the year to emerge. They grow in small clusters under deciduous trees so they have to be quick to be sure of getting any sunlight beneath the stil-leafless trees.
Bridging the gap in the floral calendar between snowdrops and bluebells Golden Saxifrage is a sure sign that winter is over and the warmth of spring lies ahead.
