Common Emerald Moth
Dave Cheetham (July)
I spotted this beautiful moth on my way out of the building last night. I quickly dashed back in to grab my camera and took a few shots.
It is a Common Emerald Moth (Hemithea aestivaria) which as the name suggests are not particularly rare in the UK. This one is obviously fairly young as the green colouring is quite dark. During their brief lifespan the colour fades quickly to a yellowish white. They can usually be seen in July and August in the and sometimes as late as September in the South of England.
