Our Kayak/Canoe Fleet
At Plas Y Brenin we are pleased to be able to offer our clients a wide range of kayaks and canoes to choose from. We are able to draw from a fleet of over 160 boats allowing our experienced coaches to kit you out with the right type and size of boat for the course that you're on.
Our main fleets are regularly updated to ensure that we have the latest designs available to you as well as ensuring that they are always in good condition. Whilst we have plenty of boats for you to use at Plas y Brenin you are welcome to bring your own along with you, feel free to ask your coaches advise on the set up of your boat and whether it is best suited to the course that you're on.
If there is a boat in our fleet that you would like to try out, just ask your coach during the course and they will do their best to build it into the course wherever possible.
Here is a breakdown of the range of boats we currently hold in our fleet.
PRECISION CREEK MACHINE
At PYB we have six Pyranha Burns in our armoury, 2 Small, 2 Medium and 2 Large which allows us to cater to each individual's needs ensuring a good fit and maximum performance. If you want to try a boat that is a solid all round river boat ask your couch to try one out.
The Burns hard, carving rails give a precise and controlled feel, letting you drive around the river easily and the flat hull lets you surf and ferry with style.
Performance focused design makes the Burn exactly what you need for having pinpoint accuracy and boofing down rivers like a Pro.
Do you like to make every little micro eddy? Work the river and enjoy a stylish and technical run? Then the Burn is probably the one for you.
Ultimate Steep Creeker
If you fancy a go in an out and out creek boat then this is for you. This boat would be perfectly suited to use on our steep creeking course. PYB has one of these in each size Small, Medium and Large to suit all sizes.
The Shiva has a rounded hull, soft stern chines, a high bow rocker and loads of volume in the bow and stern. These features give you softer landings on big drops, rear driving force when you want it, awesome boofability and resurfacing capability.
The rounded & high deck, with a high centre of volume, countering a low centre of gravity for easy rollability.
If you are running big drops and pushing harder lines the Shiva is the one you want.
We have two Everest's in our fleet. The Everest is ideally suited to the larger paddler offering plenty of space and leg room.
The Everest takes the benchmark Burn design, and adds extra length and volume for longer trips. This is the load carrying expedition kayak that will fit the big boys too!
More length, more bow rocker, more aggressive deck profiling and slightly softer edges all combine to make a super predictable expedition river kayak and excellent confidence inspiring river runner
The Fusion is the boat we selected as the ideal muti dicipline boats. This boat gets use on a multitude of courses from complete beginers sessions to our family courses to white water sea and surf courses. with its cleaver design features you improve quickly. We have 12 of these which come in two sizes to fit all.
As the name suggests, the Pyranha Fusion is a cross-over kayak which allows the paddler to enjoy two great areas of paddle sport, white water and touring.
Super stable, fast and easy to paddle, the Fusion gives you the freedom to choose from some fun whitewater or checking out some estuaries or a sheltered bay.
The tried and tested Pyranha skeg system adds a great feature allowing you to track in a straight line and the drag reducing skeg box allows the water to flow straight out of the stern of the kayak.
The speeder is part of our diverse range of kayaks at PYB.
If you fancy a boat to go from A to B quickly and easily then ask to have a try in the speeder whilst on your course at PYB.
The Speeder is for those of us who want to get out on the water and paddle for a longer distance, it's for when we fancy running rapids with a bit of speed to blast over the wave train, it's for going out on all day paddles with your lunch packed. You can paddle it around the coast or even power it along some flat water after a hard days work. The Speeder is super versatile with its manoeuvrability and easy going nature. It's so stable it even makes packing a camera essential. Most of all the Speeder is great fun!
A great kids kayak which is lightweight with a responsive hull making it easy to paddle. The adjustable outfitting makes this a great kayak for your kids as the kayak can be adjusted to fit them, this whole kayak has been designed by Pyranha for kids. Not only that the Rebel provides top end white water kayak performance like the Burn so allows them to progress with their paddling. This is a great river kayak but it also great to surf.
We have two Nomads in our fleet at PYB, one in each size to suit most paddler sizes.
If you fancy a go in a thoroughbred creek boat ask your coach about the Dagger Nomad. This boat would be perfectly suited to use on our steep creeking course.

The Axiom is a river boat that likes play as well. If you are on a course with us and fancy paddling a boat that is a bit more playful than a creek boat the Axiom is a good option for you. It comes in three sizes to suit paddlers of most sizes. We have five of these spread over these three sizes.
The Axiom lives for tail squirts, tight eddies and tearing up the waves that shorter boats simply float past. Also a great learning platform, the Axiom will serve beginners and experts alike with a healthy portion of fun.
The GT class comes in three sizes, the GTS, GT and GTX, we have one of each to cater for most sizes of paddler.
This boat falls somewhere between the Nomad and the Axiom, if you are looking to paddle a general white water river boat, have a go in a GT.
A classic river kayak; stable and forgiving. Its planning hull will surf all day long, and makes for a fast, dry ride through the even the messiest eddylines. The GT is an excellent choice for the experienced paddler, and a dynamic yet predictable river boat for those new to whitewater.
Outfitted with the river paddler in mind. With a ratchet backband, bulkhead footrest, fully adjustable seat and contoured hip pads, the GT River is ready to take on whitewater up to class 4.
The Mamba is an all round river runner. If you are on any of our white water based courses the mamba is a boat worth trying.
The Mamba comes in three different sizes to cator for all sizs of paddler. Within our fleet we have five Mambas spread across the three sizes.
If you are into touring on basic rivers, lakes and the sea this could be the boat to have a go in whilst you are with us at PYB.
It comes in 2 sizes, we have one in our pool to use on our rolling courses and one in our fleet outside.
Delivers stability, with performance edging and turning capabilities ready for more advanced skill levels. A fully adjustable drop skeg boat, at home on rivers, lakes, surf or ocean.
Perfect for those who likle to take on the challenge of moving water but enjoy the flat sections as well. Suitable for larger paddlers, with plenty of space for gear.
The approach comes in two sizes of which we have one of each in our fleet at PYB.
The RPM is an classic design, originaly standing for "radical play machine", We have 9 of these boats split over 2 sizes to cater for the medium and larger paddler.
The Dynamo is a classic river kayak but is designed specifically for kids. It is easy to paddle and maneuverable great for when your kids are starting out but also as they progress onto white water. The outfitting allows the kayak to be fitted to the paddler.
The Habitat is Wavesports answer to the out and out creek machine. Like the creek boats from the other manufacturers in our fleet it is at home on tight technical rivers and offers plenty of volume to keep you out of trouble. The Habitat comes in two sizes to fit different sizes of paddler, PYB has one of each. This boat would be perfectly suited to use on our steep creeking course
You need a boat that gets you through whatever the moment throws at you. A bombproof step pillar, 5 metal z-drag anchors and uber-stable, soft-landing hull are mandatory when you're plunging first descents. The Habitat holds any line you put it on, and with the lift of a knee, you'll be carving into eddies with absolute control. Like that? We thought you might. So whether you're a newbie to creeking or a veteran paddler, we have the Habitat for you.
The Diesel is an all round river running boat suited to all of our whitewater based courses. The Diesel comes in three sizes to cater for all sizes of people, we have one of each in our stores at PYB. Look out for it when you are in our stores selecting a boat.
They've called it the 4x4 of kayaks. Runs rapids like a fast creekboat with a hull that will also spin on green waves. It is, indeed, all that and more. Peaked deck for resurfacing - check. A honed combination of planing hull and continuous rocker for ultimate agility - check. Outfitting that will let Sasquatch fit in a kayak – big, hairy – check. Meet the SUV of river running.
D – Series
If you are at the beginning of your white water career this could be the boat for you to sample whilst on a course at PYB. We have 2 D-Series kayaks, one of each size to cater for various sizes of paddler.
The original king of river-runners has a reputation on the water that precedes it. Smooth and stable, quick and nimble, responsive and predictable. With outfitting tweaked for intermediate paddlers, the D-Series is the perfect introduction to the world of whitewater.
The Fox is a plastic slalom kayak. If you are not happy with just paddling down the river and want to make your time on the river more challenging maybe chasing sticks is for you! If slalom competition is something you could be interested in, ask to have a go in one of these whilst at the center. We have access to 7 of these at PYB.
Richard Fox, the five times world slalom champion, designed this kayak so you can be sure of its slalom pedigree.
This fast and agile kayak has competition performance whilst maintaining the benefit of a durable polyethylene construction.
The Fox is the ideal boat to tackle the rigours of slalom initiation and competition.
The Wavehopper is a whitewater racing boat designed to race down river with no stopping. If you are the competitive type and like a bit of speed then try one of these out whilst with us on your course at PYB.
The Wavehopper is a true white water racing design in the ideal construction for an introduction to competition.
This quick yet forgiving design is extremely popular with clubs and individuals for both training and competition. It has also proved a favourite for multi sport events.
The Wavehopper is endorsed by most Federations for use in competition. Perception sponsors the British Canoe Union's Wavehopper Challenge which has been established to grow participation in white water racing and show the excitement that the sport can offer.
We have selected the Nomad to complement our Diverse fleet of boats. It is ideal for taster sessions or for people who feel confined in a closed cockpit kayak. Great for the whole family. We have 12 of these in our fleet.
The Scorpio is produced in two sizes, the standard scorpio and the LV catering for the medium and smaller paddlers. At Plas y Brenin we have 5 standard Scorpios and 3 LV(Low Volume) models. The scorpio is the plastic, version of the Cetus. If you are into day journeying or expeditioning alike this boat is suited to you. If you are on a course with us and this sounds like your cup of tea enjoy!
Just like its composite brother the Scorpio provides a very efficient hull shape that is super stable and very easy to control.
With a round chined and slightly V'd hull and generous bow rocker the Scorpio runs with waves like no other polyethylene kayak out there. The Scorpio is a design that will suit both the professional sea kayak user and the individual owner who are looking for a stable and fast kayak for more exposed conditions with greater all round durability than the composite version.
The Delphin is our sea kayak of choice for playing on the sea. It has many design tweaks which make it revolutionary in the sea kayaking world. If you are a sea kayaker and want to make things even more exiting or a river paddler who fancies a go in the salty stuff this is the boat for you. We have a course on offer base around this boat (Delphin Searide week). We have five Delphins split over two sizes, the 155 and the 150 to cater for different sized paddlers.
The Delphin is undoubtedly The most exciting thing to happen to Sea Kayaking in years!
This new P&H Delphin turns traditional sea kayak design on its head and challenges many preconceived ideas of how a sea kayak should look and behave. The cockpit has been move backwards and the stern squared off so the bow just kisses the water, but when paddling the stern engages and aids tracking. This combination is unique to the Delphin creating a kayak that is long enough to paddle like a traditional sea kayak on flat water with enough speed to keep up with the pack but will transform into a new genre of free-ride sea kayak when it hits moving water, coming alive in tide races, over falls and surging water.
The Cappella comes in two sizes, 160 and 166. We have three split over the two sizes. The Cappella slots into our fleet as a slightly more stable boat, the larger size also caters for the larger paddler. If you like a roomy comfy boat keep your eyes open for one of these whilst at PYB.
The proven performance, plastic sea kayak with a long heritage within P&H Custom Sea Kayaks, the Capella has been there, done that and got the T-shirt.
This roto-moulded sea kayak will continue to prove its versatility in the Venture range offering true sea kayak handling - anywhere, anytime, any day!
Suitable for everything from relaxed expeditions on larger rivers, lakes and coastal areas, to open crossings and multi day trips in challenging conditions.
The combination of performance, durability and versatility makes the Capella the choice of many instructors and centres around the world.
Mad River Legend 15
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a white water canoeist, this boat is ideal. Is versatility means it can be paddled tandem or solo. The ideal boat for our canoe white water skills course. We have two of these lightweight Royalex canoes at PYB which complement our fleet perfectly.
With all the downriver capability of its bigger sibling, the Legend 15 is better suited for tighter, more technical rivers and for switching between solo and tandem paddling.
Mad River Reflection 15
The Reflection is more of a cruising boat, at home on simple rivers and lakes. It is a great all round boat used on a multitude of our courses. We have two Reflections in our fleet at PYB.
This compact, responsive touring canoe is quiet and smooth with effortless straight-ahead efficiency on flat or moving water. It accelerates and holds speed with little effort and provides sufficient stability to host a couple of rambunctious kids, serve as a fisherman's base of operations, or support weekend camping trips.

Mad River Explorer 15
The Explorer is a jack of all trades canoe, happy being used on our family courses as it is on the river. If you want to try a boat that is happy doing a bit of everything then ask your coach to have a go. Within our fleet at PYB we have two explorers.
Jim Henry's original Explorer design is a benchmark when it comes to versatile canoes. With assurance in its long history of proven performance, try this canoe as a family cruiser, fisherman's canoe, downriver whitewater hull, or spacious tripping canoe and shrug off the bumps and grinds that accompany just about any canoeing adventure.

Mad River Freedom Solo
The Freedom Solo is designed specifically for solo paddling. If you like the idea of not sharing your canoeing experience with anyone else this might be the boat for you. We have one freedom solo in our fleet at PYB.

Wenonah Prospector 15
The Prospector is a lightweight canoe happy designed for use on lakes and basic rivers. We have two of these prospectors in our fleet at PYB for use on a variety of our canoeing courses.
Designed especially to manoeuvre easily, the Prospector 15 can carry ample gear and run dry through lesser whitewater, such as rapids and riffles that are common on small winding rivers. Yet you'll be pleased with its performance on the lakes, as well.
The Argosy is We No Nahs answer to the traditional solo open boat. If you are into trad open boating and want a go in something lightweight to paddle on your own, try this one out whilst you're here. We have one of these in our fleet at PYB. The Argosy is made for solo exploration of rivers and streams, whether paddling the Missouri River at dawn or running the riffles and eddies of the Shenendoah. It's nimble enough to carry you through cross currents and over eddylines.
It has added depth and volume to handle rough water and even whitewater, and plenty of rocker in the keel for maneuverability. The Argosy's ability to lean predictably in tight turns builds confidence. We recommend it to intermediate and advanced paddlers.
The Rival is a specialist solo open canoe, kitted out with full air bags, a saddle and straps to keep you firmly locked in place. The short length and the pronounced rocker make this boat extremely manoeuvrable for an open canoe. If you want a taste of a different side of open canoeing ask to try this boat out.
