Plas y Brenin Announces Closure Of The Ski Slope
22 Mar 2012
Plas y Brenin has confirmed that the Ski Slope will close at the end of April this year. The ski slope has been a feature at the Centre for 40 years and the facility where many people have learned to ski. This outcome has been anticipated and discussed for two years but nevertheless the closing of any facility is a sad time for those with an attachment to it.
The decision to close the slope is based on the following considerations;
- The facility is at the end of its working life and no longer a sufficiently high quality or safe facility. The cost of renewing the ski slope structure, ski surface and lift system have been fully considered. The replacement costs are unaffordable in the present economic climate.
- The use of the ski slope has declined over a period of many years and although the running costs have been subsidized by the Centre the potential income in the future is insufficient to enable a case to be made for further investment.
- The ski slope does not contribute to the strategic objects set for the Centre which support the work of key National Governing and Representative Bodies.
Discussions with user groups have taken place in the past two years and this decision has been communicated to them.
Nevertheless it is recognised that the ski slope will be missed.
