A Sad Farewell To John Disley, our first Chief Instructor

John Disley, the first ever Chief Instructor at Plas y Brenin has died aged 87. John passed away in hospital on the morning of the 8th February after a short illness.

Born in Corris, a small village in Gwynedd in 1928, John was Chief Instructor at Plas y Brenin, The National Mountain Centre from 1955-1957.
During that time John played a pivotal role in the development of orienteering in the UK and, along with many other great achievements, went on to become one of the founder directors of the London Marathon.
