Plas y Brenin ski slope - open for another year

20 Jun 2016

Local snowsport enthusiasts and visitors alike are looking forward to another season of skiing at Plas y Brenin as it was announced that the dry slope will sty open for at least another twelve months longer than originally expected.
The artificial ski slope at Plas y Brenin had been scheduled for closure but Sport England, who provide funding for the operation of Plas y Brenin and the Mountain Training Trust who manage the facility, reached an agreement with the North Wales Snowsports Club to allow the slope to remain open until March 2016.
The long term future of the slope will be determined as part of the review of future investment at Plas y Brenin, but all parties have agreed that the operation can continue until March 2017.
On the slope’s status Dave Cheetham, Marketing Manager at Plas y Brenin commented:

“It's very exciting to have the slope open during this period of review.
The Mountain Training Trust will continue to work closely with North Wales Snowsports Club during the forthcoming season.

Asked about the continued opening of the slope, Jayne Wainwright, Chair of North Wales Snowsport Club said

“Northwales Snowsports Club are delighted that the ski-slope will be open for another year – it is a superb teaching and learning facility and, although short, it’s a great place for competitions and races and it is absolutely ideal for slopestyle.
We are aware that the future of the slope remains uncertain and that a decision will be made in due course. However we are looking forward to working with the Mountain Training Trust to continue to offer the opportunity to develop snowsports in what is a much loved community sports facility.”

Plas y Brenin’s ski slope is open 1pm – 9pm on weekdays and 10.30am – 6.00pm throughout the weekend and has a variety of sessions on offer ranging from beginner classes right up to slalom racing evenings and instructor training
