Superior Experiences For Schools

For the highest standard of accommodation you can stay in our main house where up to 65 students and staff can enjoy comfortable, modern, en-suite bedrooms, a far cry from the dormitory accommodation many expect from outdoor centres. Most of our rooms are twins and we also have a number of single rooms, which are ideal for staff .if your group is larger we're able to accomodate a further 32 guests in our two bunkhouses.
During their stay with us, your pupils will be coached and inspired by world-class mountain athletes with a level of knowledge and experience unrivalled by any other outdoor centre. They will enjoy using facilities and equipment that is always modern and well maintained, whatever outdoor activities you choose. We can arrange a wide range of mountain sports or activities according to your schools and pupils needs and interests and our depth of knowledge combined with wide range of staff, facilities and equipment mean we are always flexible enough to change the plan if the weather or other circumstances get in the way.
Your pupils will enjoy excellent food, served in hearty portions with any individual dietary requirements carefully catered for . Wherever they turn they will find friendly, helpful and encouraging staff, always eager to make sure guests enjoy themselves and go on to enjoy a lifetime of adventure.
We like nothing better than working with Schools to develop tailor made residential courses. We can offer a range of exciting activities both on and off site, allowing students to discover more about themselves and to learn about the importance of working as a team.
You can choose from the following range of activities:
Mountain Biking (bike hire will be an additional cost)
Sea Level Traversing
Low Ropes Challenge (a great team development activity)
Raft Building (followed by a raft race)
To make the most of your time with us we recommend you arrive on Sunday evening, allowing groups to enjoy a hearty breakfast before starting the first day's activity on Monday morning. But if you'd rather not travel on a Sunday we can arrange a late start on the Monday.
Each day begins with breakfast followed by a chance to select your own packed lunch from a wide range of freshly made sandwiches, fruit and snacks. Then your groups will meet their instructors and head out for the day.
At the end of a full day of activity, each group will come back to the centre in time for tea and homemade cakes.
Before dinner at 7pm your pupils will be able to enjoy a variety of group activities which we tailor according to their mood and energy levels to make sure everyone enjoys the week to the full. During the week your school group will also have the chance to catch an inspiring adventure talk and slideshow presented by one of the countries leading outdoor adventurers.
We normally wrap things up by 2pm on the final day allowing you to arrive home at a reasonable hour.
As a rough guideline the cost is from £90 per person per day

What Other Schools Thought
Activities Week is a Latymer tradition which has existed for over 40 years. In the last week of June, all pupils (except those doing public exams) participate in a week-long activity. Most are residential, based all over Europe.
Over 32 trips go out, ranging from camping and outward bound trips to Devon, the Brecon Beacons and County Mayo to walking in the Swiss Alps, sailing in the Mediterranean, cycling around Britain or surfing in Cornwall. A group of 40 year 9 and 10 students attended a weeklong trip to the National Mountain centre in Wales. This was a tremendous week of activities. Such as gorge walking, sea level traversing, mountain biking, abseiling, rock climbing and scrambling to mention a few.
The instructors and staff were friendly and very professional. Their amazing rapport with the students and the excitement of the activities made this a memorable trip. Students were inspired by the instructors and returned to school brimming with confidence.
The National Mountain Centre is set in beautiful grounds with excellent facilities. The food is outstanding.
I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Broomwood Hall School
Our school has been to the Brenin every year since 2000 and every year both children and staff leave inspired.
The centre is in a stunning location and whether it's the accommodation, food, instruction or facilities, the quality you receive is superb and has never been equalled on any other school residential trip I have been part of.
Instructor student ratios are very low and instruction is pitched clearly and confidently at the right level for the children, leaving you with no uncertainty that they are in the safest possible hands.
Many of the centre staff are at the top of their sport and internationally respected in their field so your children are not just being taken canoeing or climbing, every session is a master class.
St. Paul's Girls' School
"My week at Plas y Brenin was a completely new experience for me - I was not at all adventurous or particularly fond of the outdoors, and the idea of climbing sea cliffs terrified me. Yet it ended up being one of the highlights of my summer. The mountain centre overlooked a lake nestled in between the gorgeous Snowdonian mountains. The instructors were patient and understanding, and made me feel safe hundreds of metres above the ground on the mountain day. The activities were varied and fun. My favourite was canoeing. We mastered the basic techniques through a series of games and friendly competition.
I really surprised myself by how much I enjoyed the week and I think all who go will too! "
