Professional Standards & Practice



Keith is Senior Instructor for Professional Practice and Standards. He instructs on a full range of mountain-based courses, from Introduction to Hillwalking to Performance Winter Climbing. He also directs the complete range of Mountain Training Awards, from Climbing Wall Instructor to the Mountaineering Instructor Certificate, and heads up the Mountaineering Instructor Award (MIA), Mountaineering Instructor Certificate (MIC) and Winter Mountain Leader departments.

Memorable outdoor journeys include a three-week solo walk coast to coast across Iceland, being part of the first group of non-indigenous kayakers to paddle around Cape Farewell, Greenland, a three-month journey across Arctic Canada by Canoe and many sea kayaking trips to Scotland.


Keith is still hoping to complete the six North Faces of the Alps. Still trying to climb harder in winter. To carry on enjoying rock climbing. To paddle all of the Scottish coastline. And finally, a sea kayak journey on the west coast of Canada.
