An evening of mountains, change of plans, and meaningful moments in Nepal.
We’re delighted to welcome Andrew Barlass to Plas y Brenin for a special one-night talk, sharing the story of a recent expedition to Nepal’s Khumbu Valley in October 2024.
What started as a bold plan to climb Kyajo Ri in alpine style quickly took a different turn. After facing illness and difficult conditions on the mountain, Andrew and his team had to make some tough decisions. Instead of pushing ahead, they refocused their journey—trekking deeper into the Khumbu and ultimately climbing Lobuche East amidst ongoing health challenges.
This is a story about resilience, flexibility, and what happens when adventure doesn’t go to plan. It’s about the friends you rely on, the lessons you learn at altitude, and the beauty you find when you’re willing to adapt.
Whether you’re a seasoned climber, a hillwalking enthusiast, or simply love stories from the mountains, this free talk promises insight, inspiration, and plenty of heart.
