Job Overview

As a Centre Assistant, you will provide vital support across various operational functions within the centre, enabling us to deliver excellent customer service. This role is designed to prepare you for a career in the Outdoor Sector, offering opportunities to gain a wide range of skills and experience, including instructional duties. You will be involved in multiple areas of the business, including customer service, housekeeping, catering, maintenance, and health & safety. Your role will also include outdoor instructional programmes, assisting with activities such as canoeing, kayaking, SUP, rock climbing, and more.

  • Customer Service/Reception: Assist with front-of-house customer service, ensuring excellent customer experiences and supporting guests with queries and requests.
  • Housekeeping: Provide support to the housekeeping team by maintaining cleanliness and ensuring high standards of accommodation for guests.
  • Catering & Bar: Help with catering and bar operations, ensuring a welcoming environment and excellent food and beverage service for guests.
  • Maintenance & Health & Safety: Assist with maintenance tasks and help implement health and safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for both guests and staff.
  • Operational Support: Assist with various operational functions including security and out-of-hours support, ensuring the smooth running of all areas of the centre.
  • Minibus Driver: Drive customers to and from course locations and travel interchanges in minibuses, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Outdoor Instruction: Provide assistance with multi-activity courses and lead activities once qualified. These may include canoeing, kayaking, SUP, rock climbing, mountain walking, and more.
  • Rolling Pool & Climbing Wall: Assist with the operation of the rolling pool and climbing wall, ensuring equipment is properly maintained and activities run smoothly.

Full-time: 1 April to 30 November 2026, 36 hours per week, typically 5 days per week (Monday – Sunday). Occasional late shifts and night-time working may be required, with annualised hours.

  • Salary: £12.71 per hour
  • Holidays: 28 days inclusive of bank holidays, pro-rata.
  • Board & Accommodation: A limited number of live-in accommodation spaces are available for a monthly fee of £365, deducted from salary.
  • Paid time-off to attend certain relevant NGB courses and gain qualifications. Costs for qualifications (excluding registration) will be covered by us, provided you fulfil the contract duration.
  • Access to equipment stores and facilities for personal development.
  • Development days to work towards qualifications

 

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Full driving licence held for a minimum of 2 years (for driving minibuses).
  • Active participation in outdoor activities such as climbing, walking, or paddling.

Desirable:

  • First Aid certification (training provided if not already held).
  • Climbing, water, mountain biking qualifications.
  • Experience with trailer towing and/or training.

Essential:

  • Previous experience in customer service or hospitality.

Desirable:

  • Experience driving minibuses.
  • Familiarity with outdoor activities and instructional experience.
  • Experience in a similar outdoor or operational role.

Essential:

Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.

Desirable:

  • Ability to operate outdoor activity equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety and risk management procedures.

Essential:

  • Willingness to undergo further training as required, including First Aid, COSHH, and NGB qualifications.
