International Mountain Leader Assessment Winter Kit List

Here is a list of all the kit you may need during your course. We don’t lend any equipment for the assessment course. We expect you come with all your own equipment and be familiar in using and understanding any technique equipment you bring as this will be part of the assessment.

  • Waterproof Jacket. 
  • Waterproof Trousers or Salopettes. 
  • Insulated Jacket.
  • Base Layers. 
  • Mid Layers. 
  • Trousers. 
  • Hat. 
  • Waterproof Gloves. At least two pairs are essential. The Mountain Equipment Guide or similar is recommended. 
  • Thin gloves. For example, the Mountain Equipment Touch Screen Glove.
  • Socks
  • Sunglasses, Snow/Ski Goggles. 
  • Winter Mountaineering boots or Snowshoe boots. 
  • Snowshoes
  • Adjustable Ski or Walking Poles
  • Rucksack
  • Dry bag. 
  • Flask/water bottle. 
  • Shovel. 
  • Probe. 
  • Transceiver.. 
  • Map. 
  • Compass. 
  • Headtorch (Plus spare batteries) 
  • First aid kit. 
  • Ice axe. This should be a walking/mountaineering axe such as the DMM cirque. 50- 60cm is usually a good length Rope. This is a walking rope 30m in length.
  • Slings. Two slings the length is your choice 
  • Karabiner. 3 HMS (pair shaped)
