Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor Kit List

Here is a list of all the kit you may need during your course. Our comprehensive stores department can provide many items you may not have.

Climbing Kit

You’re likely to have most of this equipment already. If not, you can use our stores for any climbing equipment you don’t have.

  • Helmet
  • Harness
  • Rock Climbing Shoes
  • Nut Key
  • Prusiks
  • Climbing Rack
  • Grigri
  • Jumar
  • Ascender

We will provide all climbing ropes for use during the course.

Personal Clothing

The personal kit we have in stores is marked with an asterisk. The rest we ask you to bring.

  • Waterproof jacket*
  • Waterproof trousers*
  • Mountaineering boots
  • Approach shoes
  • Climbing clothes
  • Warm layers
  • Belay jacket
  • Hat and gloves (when it’s cold)
  • Sunhat (when it’s warm)

Personal Equipment

  • Rucksack* (a minimum of 40 litres as you’ll have all your own kit to carry, plus some group kit)
  • Dry sacks (for keeping kit dry in the pack during bad weather)
  • Headtorch* and spare batteries
  • Water Bottle/Flask
  • Sunscreen/Sunglasses (high factor)
  • Midge Repellant
  • Small personal first aid kit (please remember any personal medication you may need)
  • Maps (ensure the map is weatherproofed; laminated maps are best)
  • OL17, Snowdon and the Conwy Valley, by Ordnance Survey
  • Map Pen
  • Compass*
  • Pen and paper for taking notes
