White Water Safety Kit List

For BCAB White Water Safety and Advanced White Water Safety Courses, you will need to bring the following safety kit. We have a wide selection of kit available in stores that can be borrowed; these items are marked with an asterisk.

  • Buoyancy aid (PFD) with Quick Release Chest Harness *
  • Waterproof phone case
  • Whistle
  • River Knife
  • Saw (for canoeists)
  • Throwline *
  • Sling / tape *
  • Carabiners (locking, ideally HMS) *
  • Prussiks *
  • Pulleys *
  • Rescue Drysuits *

Plus, everything from the standard paddlesports kit list:

  • Shoes to wear on the water (laced or Velcro with a good sole. No Crocs, sliders or flexible-sole wetsuit boots)
  • Long-john wetsuit *
  • Semi-dry paddling jacket / cag *
  • Dry trousers / drysuit (not required, but feel free to bring if you own either of these)
  • Spraydeck (only for kayaking courses) *
  • Buoyancy Aid (PFD) *
  • Paddlesport Helmet (No climbing or biking helmets) *
  • Thermal layers + spares to go in boat (ideally synthetic)
  • Small Drybag (for kayaking – to fit inside the back of your boat)
  • Large Drybag (for canoeing – to hold any spare kit and adjust boat trim)
  • Towel / changing robe
  • Change of clothes
  • Water bottle / Flask
  • Lunch (if non-residential)
  • Neoprene gloves (if cold weather. Or pogies if kayaking)
  • Sun hat / warm hat (depending on weather conditions)
  • Sun cream (if needed)
  • Any medication for pre-existing medical conditions

We can offer a range of Canoe / Kayaks / SUPs and paddles / canoe poles suitable for your course. If you have your own, then please feel free to bring them along with you. They will need to be suitably outfitted for you and the course, including airbags, if you wish to use your own craft.

If you own any Paddlesport safety kit, please bring this with you. Any safety kit such as throwlines, slings, towlines, pumps etc. can be provided from our stores, if it is required.
