Overview
Snowdonia is home to some of the best grade 2 and 3 scrambles in the country – fact! What’s better is they’re close to the road, so you’ll be on rock in no time. What’s even better is the fact they can be joined up to create unforgettable days out, you can quite literally scramble from the bottom of the Ogwen valley to the summits of the Glyderau on nothing other than perfect rock. Does it get any better?! Our staff will lead all the scrambles, letting you focus on the joys of moving through the mountains. Trust our local knowledge to put the perfect weekend together for you
Who’s This Aimed At?
If you love scrambling and would like to gain experience of trickier scrambles that require the use of a rope, this should fit the bill. The aim is to link up multiple grade 2 & 3 scrambles into a long and inspiring journey in the mountains. Previous experience of grade 1 scrambling is essential, as is a good level of fitness and head for heights. Don’t worry if you’ve not used ropes before, we’ll explain all that as we go.
You’ll learn lots during the course just by doing, but it doesn’t have a specific instructional focus. This would be a perfect steppingstone for scramblers who’d like to attend our Advanced Scrambling course but aren’t already rock climbers or anybody who’d like to gain mileage and have some great mountain adventures.
What Your Course May Look Like
Every course is unique as we tailor each one to the team and the weather, but this should give a flavour of what you might get up to…
Saturday
- Informal welcome chat with our staff and your course members
- Head to stores to get kitted out
- Discuss the weather and consider where’s best for the day
- Ascend classic grade 2 / 3 scrambles
- Examples could be the Idwal Staircase followed by Idwal Continuation and Cneifion Arete in the Glyderau
- Return to PYB for tea and cake!
Sunday
- More of the same, based on wherever the weather is best.
- Another great day out would be the Clogwyn y Person Arete, continuing to the summit of Garnedd Ugain, then descend the Gyrn Las ridge to the Llanberis Pass.
- Return to PYB for more tea and cake, and a fond farewell.
