Success means evaluating your group’s abilities and trip suitability, all while performing manoeuvres in real situations. This assessment revolves around your capacity to lead and evaluate a paddling group’s readiness for specific trips, or to consider alternatives when necessary. It focuses on applying various sea kayaking techniques in practical scenarios, demanding effective manoeuvre execution.
Your assessment covers all aspects of the British Canoeing ‘Sea Kayak Leader Award.’ You must demonstrate leadership and evaluation skills, ensuring that your group’s capabilities align with chosen trips. This assessment places a strong emphasis on practical application and manoeuvring in sea conditions.
To succeed, you’ll demonstrate that you can evaluate and lead a group of paddlers to establish whether a particular trip is suitable to their level of performance, or choose alternatives.
To excel in this assessment, you must be well-prepared. This includes regular experience in leading paddling excursions in the lead-up to your assessment. You should have practiced emergency response scenarios and fine-tuned your trip planning skills. This assessment will put your leadership and decision-making abilities to the test in a challenging sea kayaking environment.
