Overview
Welcome to our two-day Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Assessment, set amidst the breath-taking coastlines of North Wales. This assessment aims to rigorously evaluate your abilities, including personal paddling skills, leadership capabilities, and rescue proficiencies, in demanding open water environments, including tide races, surf, and challenging journeys. Our goal is to determine your readiness to lead paddlers with a range of experience, including advanced tidal waters, and assess your judgment in selecting appropriate environments for diverse groups.
Objectives
The primary objective of this assessment is to thoroughly test your skill level, leadership capacity, and decision-making ability in sea kayaking scenarios, particularly in advanced conditions. It will assess your competence to lead paddlers with varying experience levels, up to and including advanced tidal water conditions. To succeed, you’ll need to demonstrate sound judgment in choosing suitable environments for paddlers with diverse backgrounds.

Itinerary
The assessment begins with a planning exercise, setting the stage for a day into night sea kayaking adventure in advanced conditions. This challenging experience will assess your skills and leadership capabilities in a dynamic coastal environment. The second day will be dedicated to covering aspects of the syllabus not addressed on the first day.

Experience Required
Relevant and up-to-date leadership experience in the environment. First aid, open water, navigation and tide planning are required, as well as full membership with British Canoeing and have registered for assessment with your NGB.
How Should I Prepare?
To participate, you should possess relevant and up-to-date leadership experience in the sea kayaking environment. Additionally, you’ll need certifications in first aid, open water, navigation, and tide planning. Full membership with British Canoeing is a prerequisite, and you must have registered for assessment with your National Governing Body. Expect a rigorous evaluation of your sea kayaking skills and leadership competencies in North Wales’ stunning coastal settings.
