This course is here to support you on your journey towards becoming a BCAB Advanced Whitewater Leader, looking at the skills required to lead others on grade 4. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of where you are on the road to assessment and how to lead effectively, supporting, inspiring and challenging others in appropriate advanced environments.
This course is aimed at whitewater paddlers with experience paddling on grade four who are looking to lead others on advanced whitewater. Visit www.britishcanoeingawarding.org.uk to see a skills checklist and guidance.
At this level, you will demonstrate not only personal skill proficiency but also leadership, adaptability, and sound decision-making. Your ability to lead paddlers in diverse white-water conditions is a key objective. By the end of this programme, you should be well-prepared for your Advanced White Water Leader Assessment.
Expect an intensive two days with hands-on experience that will enhance your personal paddling, leadership and safety skills, setting you on the path to becoming an Advanced White Water Leader.
You’ll be spending most of your time on advanced rivers of grade 3-4. We’ll aim to get you on different styles of river e.g. tight and technical and bigger volume, depending on water levels.
You should be an experienced whitewater paddler with experience in grade 4 environments.
To gain the most from this course you will want to be comfortable in the grade 4 environment. Consider the Advanced White Water personal performance award to improve your skills. Also familiarise yourself with the resources available on the British Canoeing Awarding Body website.
