Overview

This training will help to develop your technical knowledge and will aid you in applying the content covered in the Core Coach award to coaching paddlers in an advanced open water environment focusing on the How, What and Where of coaching.
You’ll leave with an action plan to advance your coaching skills and help you to prepare for the advanced open water canoe coach assessment.
This training delves into the essential elements of coach training, focusing on advanced open water environment for canoes. Whether you’re working towards Coach Award Qualifications or seeking practical guidance for ongoing learning and development, this course offers valuable insights. You’ll explore coaching theories and practices, aligning with British Canoeing standards, and leave equipped with an action plan to enhance your coaching journey.

Itinerary

The training unfolds over two days, with day one dedicated to applying Coach Core behaviours in advanced open water settings. On day two, you’ll put these principles into practice during a coaching session, receiving peer feedback, observation, and trainer guidance. The course culminates with an action planning session to prepare you for future assessments and continued development.

Experienced Required

Prior to attending the course, you must have completed a number of prerequisites:
Full Home Nation Association Membership
Core Coach Training
Advanced Open Water Canoe Leader Award

Your personal paddling skills should be well developed so that the full focus of the course is on coaching skills. We also recommend that you’re able to demonstrate the skills you’ve developed from the Advanced Open Water Canoe Leader award. You’ll also need good knowledge of open water canoeing, as this provides the content of what you’ll be coaching.

How Should I Prepare?

To make the most of this training ensure you have a high level of competency in your craft in winds that exceed force 4. Look back over the content covered in your core coach training.
