Welcome to our two-day Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Enhanced Training programme, tailored for those who frequently venture into challenging sea conditions, including tidal races, headlands, open crossings, swell, and rugged coastlines. If you aspire to lead groups in these demanding environments, this course is ideal for you. We’ll comprehensively cover personal paddling, leadership, and safety skills, adhering to British Canoeing’s standards. Throughout the course, you’ll also complete the Open Water and Tide Planning course, leaving you well-prepared to achieve your goals.
Our primary objective is to ensure you cover all the essential aspects of the British Canoeing ‘Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Training’ course, setting the stage for future assessment. We aim to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate and lead in advanced sea conditions safely and effectively.
Throughout the course, we’ll make the most of weather and sea conditions to provide extensive exposure to advanced water scenarios. You’ll experience paddling in tide races, overfalls, rocky shorelines, and medium to large surf. We’ll even undertake a challenging offshore island crossing that’s over an hour from the mainland, including a night paddle. While prior experience in advanced sea conditions is beneficial, this course is designed to enhance your skills in these challenging environments.
