We’ll look at the skills needed to safely paddle in a grade 3/4 environment and deal with problems that may occur on steeper rivers. The course will provide you with the strategies for safe river running in advanced white water environments.
Both days will be dedicated to practical exercises on local rivers, allowing you to actively implement the skills and knowledge from the syllabus, and gain confidence in various rescue and safety techniques.
The aim of the course is to support paddlers in being independent participants on grade 3/4 white water, you’ll be able to apply and build on the techniques taught at White Water Safety in an advanced environment and appreciate the team approach concept that provides structure in an emergency situation. The course also looks at more advanced rope work for generating and controlling loads, how to place a rescuer in the current and exploring ways to deal with entrapped paddlers.
Both days of the course are spent on local rivers, allowing for hands-on application of the syllabus. You’ll not only practice vital techniques but will also understand the dynamics of team-based strategies in emergencies. Expect an immersive experience that leaves you better equipped to paddle safely in advanced whitewater conditions.
