This assessment evaluates your personal paddling skills, leadership capabilities, rescues, technical knowledge, and group management according to governing body criteria. You’ll embark on a two-day assessment journey, closely following the guidelines provided by British Canoeing. This assessment is specifically designed to evaluate your proficiency in personal paddling skills and leadership skills within the challenging Open Water environment.
Before you set out on this assessment, there are a few key objectives to keep in mind. Firstly, make sure you’ve registered with the relevant home nation before the assessment date. This step is essential to ensure you meet all the necessary requirements. Secondly, aim to feel confident and comfortable in both leading and paddling within the Open Water environment. This confidence will be invaluable during the assessment process.
During these two days of assessment, you can expect a thorough evaluation of your canoeing abilities in Open Water. The assessment will cover various aspects, including personal paddling skills, leadership skills, rescues, technical knowledge, and group management. You’ll be required to demonstrate your competence in these areas to a standard set by the BCAB. The assessment process will be rigorous but fair, providing you with valuable feedback to enhance your canoeing skills. Be prepared for both individual and group assessments, and ensure you have the necessary equipment and knowledge to excel in this challenging environment.
