Your assessment will involve delivering two coaching sessions lasting 90 minutes each, primarily in moderate sea conditions. You’ll be expected to demonstrate not only your coaching abilities but also personal skills and leadership, along with safety and rescue proficiency. These assessments will adhere to British Canoeing standards.
Before you proceed to the Coach Award Assessment, you must meet certain prerequisites, including registration, eLearning, core training, discipline-specific training, and holding a Sea Kayak Leader Award. Additionally, you must have in-date First Aid and Safeguarding training, be a full Home Nation Association member, and be at least 16 years old at the time of assessment. Specific details and alternative options are provided in the Coach Award Course Guide, and you must obtain Home Nation Association approval to proceed to assessment.
You’ll be assessed on your ability to operate as a Sea Kayak coach, covering the skills required for paddling a sea kayak in moderate tidal conditions (up to and including – Sea state 4, Beaufort wind 4, moderate surf (>1m) and tidal flow up to 2 knots). You’ll be assessed to the standards set in line with British Canoeing.
You’ll be assessed delivering two coaching sessions of 90 minutes mostly in moderate sea conditions. In addition you will need to display personal skills and appropriate leadership, safety and rescue skills.
