This course is here to provide paddlers with the skills and understanding of how to stay safe when paddling on the sea in sheltered or moderate conditions.
Objectives
The primary objective of this training is to provide you with the knowledge of how to stay safe on the sea in conditions up to force 4 winds with up to two knots of tide. The training will help you to understand tidal information, learn safety frameworks to help prevent situations from happening but having the simple solutions to dealing with mishaps should they happen.
This is a practical course full of solutions to dealing with issues that may arise when paddling on the sea in sheltered and moderate environments.
By the end of this training, you’ll be more confident in planning trips, understanding the equipment required to keep you safe, how to assist others and techniques for rescuing yourself and others.
This training course will challenge and develop your skills in moderate sea conditions with guidance from our experts. To make the most of this experience, ensure that you are physically fit for a practical day in moderate conditions. Being a competent paddler in sheltered sea conditions is essential before attending this training, as it will help you build on your existing skills and get the most value from the course. Expect a hands-on, immersive experience that will improve your confidence paddling in moderate sea environments.
It is recommended that you hold the British Canoeing Sea Kayak Award or have the equivalent ability, due to the paddling environment and the boat control required to participate fully in the course.
Make sure that you’re fit enough for a practical day on the sea in moderate conditions.
