You’ll cover where to walk, what to wear, how to plan and follow routes, useful information about the upland environment and weather, and what to do if things don’t go to plan. You’ll be learning from our highly qualified instructors and developing your new skills as you explore the peaks of Snowdonia.

What to Expect

• Walking Skills: Considerations for making life easier while out walking, including pace, nutrition, and movement skills.
• Navigation Skills: Understanding the basics like using features and symbols, compass navigation, navigation strategies, and electronic devices.
• Weather: Insights into how weather conditions can affect the hills and your day out.
• Clothing and Equipment: Guidance on how being properly dressed and equipped can make the difference between a good day out and a bad one.
• Environment: Instructions on how to minimise your impact on the hill and practice good habits.
• Hazards and Emergency Procedures: Information on how to deal with encountered hazards and what to do in an emergency.

Experience Required

You must be at least 18 years old to join this course at Plas y Brenin (or 14 if accompanied by a parent)

How Should I Prepare?

You need to be reasonably fit. But we’ll tailor the course to the needs of those attending.
