Course Breakdown

Overview

Revitalize your confidence and take your paddling skills to new heights on this five-day course designed for those with limited experience on moving water or those needing a boost after a hiatus or setback. Our friendly, highly qualified team will guide you in consolidating your existing skills before venturing into more advanced techniques. You’ll develop a deeper understanding of river reading and rescue, build on the core fundamentals of white water paddling, understand trim and tactics for paddling in the wind and find a newfound sense of ease on the water. The course combines hands-on white water and open water trips with static, site-based coaching sessions, and puts a strong emphasis on safety.

On day one, the focus will be on revisiting fundamental skills, with the rest of the week dedicated to practical skill development and essential safety training. By the end of the week, you’ll leave feeling more comfortable and capable, ready to enjoy paddling more than you ever thought possible.

Objectives

You’ll develop your existing skills, gain a more in-depth insight into river reading, open water skills, rescue skills and further develop your technical and tactical paddling. You’ll leave feeling more comfortable and relaxed on the water so that you enjoy your paddling more than you ever thought possible.

What to Expect

On day one, we’ll revisit the fundamental skills underpinning canoeing. You’ll spend the rest of the week on a series of trips to develop your practical skills. We can weight the week toward white water or open water depending on the wants and needs of the group. We’ll also deliver a number of static site-based coaching sessions. Throughout the week, we’ll also cover essential safety and rescue skills to enable you to stay safe whilst paddling.

Experience Required

You need to have a good understanding of the fundamentals of flat water paddling and have gained some moving water experience.

How To Prepare

You should have paddled fairly recently but not necessarily in white water. You should be fit enough for an active five days. All you need to bring is sufficient base clothing to wear, and some suitable footwear. Our stores have a wide range of Peak UK soft wear as well as paddles and poles. We have a selection of Wenonah royalex canoes. If you prefer the familiar, feel free to bring your own kit.
