For young riders who are already dedicated to mountain biking, this course offers an opportunity to refine your existing skills. Our friendly and experienced instructors will guide you through some of the UK’s top trails and bike parks. Over five days, you’ll cover a diverse array of skills, including drop-offs, bunny hops, riding berms, manual front wheel lifts, technical climbing and descending, and more. You’ll have ample chances to apply these skills on mountain bike excursions, local trail centres, and our specialized mountain bike skills course.

Throughout this course, we aim to help you acquire a wealth of new skills and become a more proficient mountain biker. You’ll gain expertise in areas such as bike handling, trail riding skills, efficient and controlled braking, manual front wheel lifts, power-assisted front wheel lifts, drop-offs, bunny hops, riding berms, practical navigation, and riding red trails on both man-made and natural tracks. To make the most of this experience, a good level of fitness is required, and you should feel confident on red trails.
During this week, you’ll have the privilege of riding some of the UK’s premier trails and bike parks, making the most of your mountain biking passion. We’ll begin with a refresher on bike handling and trail riding skills, ensuring you’re prepared for the challenges ahead. You’ll delve into technical climbing and descending techniques, efficient and controlled braking methods, manual front wheel lifts, power-assisted front wheel lifts, drop-offs, bunny hops, riding berms, and practical navigation.
Throughout the week, you’ll explore red trails on both man-made and natural tracks, honing your skills in diverse environments. This course is designed for those with a good level of fitness and confidence in tackling red trails, making it a perfect fit for those who have previously participated in a mountain bike skills course or are aged 14-17. Expect to leave this course with a wealth of new skills, ready to tackle mountain biking at your best.
You should bring your own MTB plus your regular MTB equipment and clothing, helmet etc. Or you can hire a bike from Plas y Brenin (subject to availability) for an additional charge or you can hire a bike locally and arrange for them to be delivered to our base in time for the start of your course (Bikes Betws in Betws y Coed).
As both your body and mind will be working hard while you’re with us, we want to help you focus on achieving the goal you’ve set for yourself. So, if you’re staying with us, comfortable accommodation (with WiFi included) and home-cooked meals are part of the deal. You don’t need to think about sorting this out for yourself. Support is on hand from our friendly and exceptionally well-qualified staff to help develop your understanding and personal skills. They also assist you in formulating an appropriate action plan for your further development.
