This is a five-day Mountain Leader assessment course. Within the week you’ll take in a three-day expedition with wild camping out in beautiful Snowdonia as you use the experience gained on our Mountain Leader training course and during your consolidation period.
We create a positive and relaxed an assessment environment so that you’re able to perform at your best. We will assess you against the Mountain Training accredited syllabus of the award whilst looking for opportunities to develop your skills when we can.
You’ll need to show that you can lead groups safely on mountain walks; including strong navigation skills, leadership ability and environmental knowledge. Our job is to create the best environment we can for you to demonstrate your skills.

You’ll have two quality mountain days with theoretical evening sessions in the centre including a paper exercise, then we’ll go out on a three-day expedition.
Before you book onto a Mountain Leader assessment, make sure you have done the following:
You should spend some time consolidating your Mountain Leader Training by following the action plan you drew up during that course. You will need to meet the pre-requirements for the assessment course as outlined in Experience Required. We recommend you that you treat the 40 quality mountain days as a minimum.
Note: Our instructors will assess any safety equipment you bring with you. If they consider it to be below the required standard, you will be asked to use equipment provided free of charge by Plas y Brenin.
