Overview

If you’re a young climber looking to up your game, this course is the missing ingredient you need. Whether you want to enhance your ropework or boost your physical performance, we’re here to help. Our experienced instructors will guide you on boulders, crags, and various rock types in North Wales, providing you with a diverse set of climbing skills and techniques. Working in small groups ensures you’ll receive personalized attention and assistance in choosing the right adventure level for you. We’re committed to pushing your climbing abilities, refining your technique, and ensuring your safety at the crag.

The Objectives

By the end of the course, you can expect to:

  • Master route selection
  • Conquer single and multi-pitch climbing
  • Gain proficiency in advanced ropework
  • Learn to manage your descent from the crag
  • Develop self-reliance and essential crag skills
  • Understand lead climbing safety

Itinerary

During this course, you can look forward to covering a wide range of skills and techniques. Some of the key areas we’ll explore include:

  • Bouldering Safely: We’ll teach you how to boulder safely, giving you the confidence to tackle challenging problems.
  • Route Selection: Learn the art of route selection, an essential skill for climbers.
  • Single and Multi-Pitch Climbing: Master the techniques for both single and multi-pitch climbing, extending your capabilities.
  • Advanced Ropework: Gain proficiency in advanced ropework, a crucial aspect of climbing safety.
  • Getting Yourself Off the Crag: Learn the techniques and strategies for safely descending from the crag.
  • Self-Reliance / Crag Skills: Develop self-reliance and essential crag skills to navigate various climbing situations.
  • Lead Climbing Safety: Understand the principles of lead climbing safety, a fundamental skill for advanced climbers.
  • Problem Solving: Hone your problem-solving skills to overcome challenges on the rock.
  • Training and Improving Movement Skills: Focus on training and improving your movement skills, which are essential for climbing efficiency.
  • Hazard Awareness: Develop a keen sense of hazard awareness and problem avoidance in different climbing environments.

Experience Required

You should already be a confident outdoor climber or have attended a Young Person’s Rock Improvers course. Weather Permitting, we will spend all our time advancing your ropework skills and improving your route climbing ability.

How Should I Prepare/What to Bring?

You should bring suitable outdoor clothing for climbing in, such as technical climbing trousers, fleece and waterproofs. You’ll also find crag approach shoes useful. Bring any technical climbing gear you have, but we’ve got a great store here so why not take the opportunity to try out that new piece of kit you’ve had your eye on? We’ll use Plas y Brenin ropes.
