Rock Improver - 2 Day

Overview

This immersive course is all about going climbing and gaining valuable mileage on rock. A ratio of one instructor to two participants allows us to go to multi-pitch crags and take on more demanding venues, such as sea cliffs. Rest assured, you’ll receive personalised coaching and instruction to take your climbing wherever you want it to go.

You should leave the course feeling more confident and capable as a climber and eager to put it into action!

Who’s This Aimed At?

Climbers who would like to develop their skills and build confidence seconding routes, or gain more experience towards lead climbing. You need to be able to tie in and belay confidently, and have seconded some routes outdoors (at any grade). If you’ve been on our Introduction to Rock Climbing or Indoor to Outdoor Climbing courses and been out on the rock ever since, this is a great next step!

What Your Course May Look Like 

Every course is unique as we tailor each one to the team and the weather, but this should give a flavour of what you might get up to.

Saturday

• Informal welcome chat with our staff and your course members;
• Head to stores to get kitted out;
• Climb on a multi-pitch crag for the day;
• Focus on specific things you’d like to learn, such as building belays or developing movement skills;
• Gain experience seconding, removing gear, tying into belays, climbing calls etc;
• Abseil to descend the crag;
• Get as much in as possible;
• Return to Plas y Brenin for tea and cake!

Sunday 

• Discuss the weather and where to go for the day;
• Choose a crag that’s appropriate to the team’s goals, often a more demanding venue, such as a sea cliff or trickier routes on a mountain crag;
• Consolidate and develop skills from the previous day;
• Return to PYB for more tea and cake, and a fond farewell.
