Tide Race and Overfalls

Overview

A great 2 days for any sea kayaker that ready to take on bigger sea conditions, this 2 day introduction will make the best use of our amazing North Wales coastline and some of the UK best tide races, during the course, we will covers the core techniques for boat handling in rough water alongside rescue practice, a progressive approach where you can develop your confidence under the watchful eye of our highly qualified and experienced coaches.

Who is this aimed at

This course is for experienced sea kayakers who are looking to upskill in rough tidal conditions.

Objectives

You’ll come away from the course having explored the world famous, challenging tidal races of Anglesey all under the watchful eye of our highly experienced instructors.

We’ll build your confidence in:

• Breaking in and out of tidal flow
• Surfing
• Rough Water Maneuvering
• Reading Big Water
• Close Quartering
• Crossing Current
• Forward Speed
• Edging and Leaning

Itinerary

Throughout the course, we’ll make the most of weather and sea conditions to provide extensive exposure to advanced water conditions. You’ll experience paddling in tide races, overfalls, rocky shorelines, and medium to large surf. While prior experience in advanced sea conditions is beneficial, this course is designed to enhance your skills in these challenging environments.

Experience Required

This course is competent sea kayakers who have a reliable roll and some experience paddling in challenging sea conditions.

How should I prepare?

Ensure you have a good level of fitness for two challenging days out at sea.
