This two day course is ideal for you if you work at a climbing wall, or a venue with permanent or mobile climbing towers. You'll be trained in the skills you need to supervise climbers on purpose built artificial climbing walls and boulders. The Abseil Module Training is included in this course, we'll show you how to supervise abseiling on artificial structures.

You'll cover the skills on the Climbing Wall Instructor syllabus, after which you can go for a period of consolidation before your Climbing Wall Instructor assessment.
Technical Competence (including equipment, belaying, personal skills and background knowledge)
Management and Decision Making (including planning, managing participants, decision making, knowledge and demonstration of techniques and managing other staff)
Teaching and Learning Skills
The Climbing Environment (including access, etiquette and ethics)

You will need to register with Mountain Training before booking onto this course. To register, you must be at least 17 years old (18 at assessment) You should also have at least 6 months of experience of using a variety of climbing walls and have an interest in climbing and supervising groups on climbing walls. You must be a member of a mountaineering council: BMC, Mountaineering Scotland or Mountaineering Ireland. Take a look at the Mountain Training syllabus for full information on the qualification.

If your course is based at Plas y Brenin, the residential price includes accommodation for the night before, and the duration of your time here. If you’re staying with us, we also provide delicious meals to keep you going as you learn, meaning you can concentrate on enjoying yourself.
When it comes to equipment, at Plas y Brenin we have a wide range of top-quality kit for you to use, all included in your course fee. This means if you’re just starting out, there’s no need to rush out and buy a load of expensive gear, and if you’re already pretty well kitted-out, it’s a great chance to try something new.
