Be a Mock Student

Throughout the year we run training and assessment courses that require candidates to demonstrate their coaching skills. To make their experience as authentic as possible, we use ‘mock’ students for the candidates to direct and teach. It’s a great way to gain experience, confidence and free coaching, all closely supervised by our experienced instructors.

Throughout the year we run training and assessment courses that require candidates to demonstrate their coaching skills. To make their experience as authentic as possible, we use ‘mock’ students for the candidates to direct and teach. It’s a great way to gain experience, confidence and free coaching, all closely supervised by our experienced instructors.

Due to the nature of the assessments we run, we require mock students to be fit and capable of spending an entire day under tuition. We also need you to meet certain criteria, so please only apply if you fit into ANY of the following categories:

  • Completed a Countryside Award, Lowland Leader, Hill and Moorland Leader and Mountain Leader training course, or looking to attend a Mountain Leader training course in the near future.
  • Can trad climb, either leading or seconding. If you’re lead climbing VS and harder, or you’ve already done your Rock Climbing Instructor Assessment or Training, then you’re too experienced!
  • Have some indoor climbing experience and want to learn to lead indoors.
  • A novice paddler. Not a complete beginner but around 1-star level. (Possibly a rusty 2-star!)
  • Paddle at 3* or above in a whitewater canoe or kayak or a sea kayak.
  • Are confident mountain biking on red trails.
  • Are happy to lie around and be a ‘casualty’ (possibly with the aid of make-up injuries!) for an advanced first aid course.
