Course Breakdown

Overview

During these two days, we’ll develop the skills required to lead others on open water in winds exceeding force 4 where the group may be more than 500m from the side and in coastal venues with frequent landings with a tidal stream no more than 2 knots. We’ll ensure you leave the course with a clear picture of the assessment standard, what an assessment looks like and a clear action plan towards your assessment.

By the end of this training, you’ll be a more confident leader, possessing the necessary personal paddling, trad, rescue, safety, leadership, and group skills required for this award. This course brings you one step closer to becoming an Advanced Open Water Canoe Leader and equips you with effective leadership techniques and boat control in dynamic open water situations.

Objectives

The primary objective of this training is to enhance your leadership abilities and prepare you for the Advanced Open Water Canoe Leader Assessment. You will gain the confidence to lead in advanced conditions while acquiring the skills necessary for effective personal paddling, rescue, trad, sailing and group management.

Itinerary

This two-day training course will challenge and develop your skills in advanced inland open water with guidance from our experts. To make the most of this experience, ensure that you are physically fit for two demanding days in windy conditions. Being a competent paddler in force 3/4 is essential before attending this training, as it will help you build on your existing skills and get the most value from the course. Expect a hands-on, immersive experience that will improve your leadership and paddling ability in advanced open water environments.

Experience Required

You’ll need to be a competent paddler in force 3/4 conditions to gain the most from this course.

How To Prepare

You’ll need to be on top of your game for this training course. Make sure that you’re fit enough for two challenging days on open water. You should also have paddled regularly before attending.
